Grant Burge Thorn Riesling 2012 (Eden Valley, SA)
12.5%, Screwcap, $21
Sourced from the 30 year old Thorn vineyard in the Eden Valley, with a portion from the Adelaide Hills.
A tropical, forward and flat sort of nose here – fuller, riper, and less defined than you’d expect. A generous palate too, with plump fruits, a little residual perhaps and a short, soft finish.
Easy going Riesling this with gentle varietal characters but little else. Ultimately looks a bit dull, broad and shapeless for mine. Expected more.
Score: 15.3/20 85/100
Would I buy it? No.
