Tasted blind in a lineup of McLaren Vale Shiraz and then checked again after a day in the fridge.
I must admit to never loving this 2011 Vicar, yet I rather like some of the 2011 Chapel Hill Chosen Series wines. It’s a hard wine to judge this one, a little reductive, the wine driven by tannins and acidity yet without quite the generosity to woo. You have to wonder whether it will ever really become seductive, as the fruit seems much more mid-weight (like many Vale ’11s) and may not be up to such seriousness of tannins.
No questioning the intent or the serious winemaking here, lets just wait and see whether it resolved better in time (as it’s going to live).
