In a nation where a tumbler of alcoholic mineral water (with a dash of pear) could just as easily pass off as mainstream Pinot Grigio, this wine is nigh on revelatory. In fact, I’d have to call this one of Australia’s best examples of the genre (good, Italian style Pinot Grigio I mean).
Drawn from the Soumah vineyard in the Warramate foothills, this handpicked Grigio has an intensity of expression more often found in the best wines from the Veneto, with a nose of Nashi pear, chalk and lemon lime bitters, supported by a palate driven by surprising fruit power and an almost Verdelho like phenolic weight. Concentrated, interesting and textural, this is a raging success.
