Ferngrove Cossack Riesling 2013 (Great Southern, WA)
12.5%, Screwcap, $23
That this is just $23 is almost criminal. Australian Riesling is ridiculously good value.
This has an Initial big hit of free sulphur, which blows off to reveal grapefruit and lime purity – really good clarity here. It’s just a fraction forward with the first whisps of terpene filtering in, but still a lovely fragrant and juicy number. Underneath the palate looks dry, clean and direct, medium length and with a tasty hit of Frankland River ginger.
Perhaps just a little forward this vintage, but still pure Riesling juiciness and a real sense of refreshment. Good stuff.
