Way Wood Wines McLaren Vale Tempranillo 2013
Sourced from Blewitt Springs. Lots of enthusiasm for Tempranillo in the Vale.
Bright mulberry purple red, this is just crammed with purple berry and creamy oak. Lots of berries. Lots of oak. Temp. is tricky though as it always shows more oak than you expect, and there is a vanillan character that shows up in the variety too (although a Rioja winemaker told me that. Who loved oak).
No surprises to see oak tannins on the finish as well, along with more warmth than the alcohol suggests.
Overall this isn’t a bad wine, but just tastes a little indistinct and raw for higher points.
