View Road Wines Fiano 2015

Josh Tuckfield is the blogger turned winemaker (with a day job) behind View Road Wines. I’ve been lucky to have seen Josh’s wines from the start and the minimal intervention, nothing-but-a-dash-of-sulphur style has improved each and every year.

This Fiano is sourced from the dry grown vineyard of Ricca Terra farm at Waikerie in the Riverland. Handpicked on 2nd February and whole bunch wild ferment in barrel and stainless. 5 months on gross lees and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Golden yellow but not cloudy, there is a hint of florals before a ripe, dried lemon, bitter lemon and a lovely bite too it. I thought this looked a little broad at first but dry and bitter in the finish. Quality and interesting, it’s natural but not awkward. Just a little more acid wouldn’t go astray, but this is interesting. 17.7/20, 92/100. 12.5%, $30. Would I buy it? I’d be tempted buy a glass or so for sure.

(I use inklpay in lieu of a paywall. A small tip goes a long way to finally paying for hosting!)

  • About me – Andrew Graham

At 18 I started working in a small suburban bottleshop, largely to buy cheap beer. It was my first year of university, doing a degree that I didn't really like, and a liquor shop seemed like fun. Needless to say I discovered wine, my uni degree morphed into something completely different and wine/beer took over my life.

Almost twenty years later and I currently spend my days wearing many (wine) hats, mostly as a writer, presenter and marketer.

While wearing my writer cap I write features for the likes of National Liquor News, Gourmet Traveller WINE and the RAS plus I'm a Lifestyle FOOD channel wine expert. Read more about me here or get in touch to book your next wine event with me here.
