Kaiju! Beer Compendium Monastic Red IPA
Kaiju does it again (after this one). This was brewed especially for GABS this year. Plenty of hops, seven different types of malt, and some Belgian yeast for good measure. The result is somewhere in between a red IPA and a Belgian dubbel. And damn it’s good.
Golden citrus nose with an edge of toffee malt, but very much an IPA. Such a powerful nose! Love the contrast between grapefruit pithy-ness but also with a thickness and richness of a dubbel. Delicious! So long and the balance of bitterness vs malt is excellent.
It’s easy to get tired of aneamic, simply hoppy IPA and this is the antidote. What a mouthful of a beer!
5 stars. 7.2%. Brewed on 4/05/16. Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat.
