Salicutti Piaggione Brunello 2006
A big Brunello, though perhaps the balance suffers because of it.
A massive mouthful of slightly horsey, meaty Sangiovese fruit, in a warm and heady style. A biggun’ So firm and long, you could almost imagine this was a Maremma Cab. Big and full of drying extract and excellent tannin. It’s almost like a Rutherglen red, but with tannins. Does the alc derail a bit I wonder. I like it and quite some impact. But the question remains if less would have been more. Best drinking: Ready now. It will live but also get more meaty too. 17.8/20, 92/100. 15%, I paid about €35 in a Brunello market a while back. Would I buy it? I expected more to be honest. I’d drink it though.
