Mandala Matriarch Pinot Noir 2015
The pointy end of the Mandala range, from a great vintage. All MV6 clone fruit, it was handpicked and all destemmed, spends 9 months in 50% new oak. That’s lots of new oak, even if just for 9 months. Packed with bright red cherry fruit with raspberry liqueur and interwoven with mocha oak, the style here is round and juicy, the oak is just a fraction dominant, but lots of lusciousness, then a full finish. Likeable, if maybe a little chunky. Good.
Best drinking: I like it now, but 2-4 years in the tank yet. 17.7/20, 92/100. 13.7%, $50. Would I buy it? I’d share a bottle.
