Livewire Pinot Noir 2017
Livewire is the label of Anthony Brain, who must get dumb jokes about his last name all the time. Meanwhile, I end up with ‘Hi Graham’ (got one today). Do you see a f*&cking comma in there? Anyway, Anthony’s wines are really tasty and well priced, and I like this Pinot a lot.
From a single vineyard (Grassy Point) on the Bellarine Peninsula), 40% whole bunches and spends an extended period on skins. Despite this, it’s a lovely and totally unforced wine that is both pretty and spicy. There’s whole bunch peppercorn, the lithe palate showing this raspberry-in-pan-juice savoury juiciness, with just enough acidity. Unforced, unaltered and really nice, languid Pinot. Even has the bacony edges you’d normally see in Geelong/Bellarine Pinot. I could drink so much of this. Best drinking: Now to five yearsish. 18.5/20, 94/100. 12.6%, $34. Would I buy it? Yes.
