Auld Family Wines Wilberforce Barossa Cabernet Shiraz 2015
The Auld family name is synonymous with South Australian wine, with William Patrick (Pat) Auld known as one of the early Adelaide vignerons. This Cab Shiraz comes from the latest of the Auld family vignerons, Jock & Sam Auld.
Probably fitting that this is old school Barossa too, with dusty oak, the style Penfoldian and hearty with drying oak tannins and some alcohol warmth. It’s a masculine red, a stayer, a real meat-and-three veg wine. It’s a bit rough-edged, but you get the feeling the style will be well received. Just a fraction raw for me though. Best drinking: Now to ten plus years. It will live! 16.5/20, 88/100. 14.5%, $27. Would I buy it? Not my bag, so no.
