It’s that time again.
We now have just a month until Christmas, which means one of the most crucial decisions of the year is upon us.
What to drink on Xmas day.
This year, I’m feeling reasonably well setup, with a bottle of Krug following me home today and a pending order of new disgorgement Primo Estate Joseph Sparkling Red (Team Graham’s official Christmas drink) just waiting to hit go. After a superstar V.D.P showcase German tasting a few days ago I’m in the mood to buy some Donnhoff Riesling GG as well (more on that tasting later). I can’t afford/shouldn’t be buying wine but these are NEEDED…
Otherwise, I’m keen to check in on a bunch of wines that are hitting the 15 year mark and could be in a perfect spot. There’s some more ’05 Tyrrell’s Vat 1 that I could well pull out for festive season drinking, and I’ve been looking for an excuse to open another bottle of ’07 Willi Schafer Auslese (one of the special bottlings) to see how they’re looking. There’s also a few bottles of ’04 Aldo Conterno Romirasco in the cellar that are just itching to be opened and an untapped box of ’05 Woodlands Colin Cabernet too (anyone tried recently? Status report?).
Of course, we also need more fridge space for a case of Bentspoke Sprocket (the IPA of 2019) which will be flowing like water all festive season as well.
So what about you? What are you buying for Christmas/festive season drinking?

Stuck an order in to Different Drop today for a few Beaujolais – taking advantage of a 5% off deal – took the oppotrunity to add an Aussie Meunier and a couple of Pet Nats. Expecting it to be stinkingly humid here in QLD on the day, so a light red that won’t mind a chill is the go.
I had the ‘19 Oakridge Meunier the other day. Deliciousness level high.
08 Blanc de Blanc from Arras and 2013 pinot chard from Heemskerk – my partners favourite is sparkling. A decent scotch.
Lighter reds that can take a chill and Pinot with the duck – Hoddles Creek or Curly Flat. A decent Nebbiolo if the weather is kind.
