Margaret River Tempranillo from Cath Oates, the ex-Plantagenet winemaker who now makes handy Margaret River wines tapping into fruit from her brother’s vineyard at Wilyabrup. I like Cath and I like her honest, well-priced wines. With this Oates Ends Tempranillo 2018 we’re in joven territory, with a vibrant and juicy style of plump Tempranillo that spends 9 months in older oak, the flavours light to medium bodied with a cavalcade of berries and fine tannins. It’s an easy wine to like with fruit appeal without being facetious. Best drinking: now but in five years it will still be going. 17/20, 90/100. 13%, $28. Would I buy it? Worth a glass or two.
