It’s not Rioja, but this Juniper Estate Small Batch Tempranillo 2017 nails the berry-laden varietal mode. As much Margaret River as it is Tempranillo really, with juicy dark berries, the mouth coating fine tannins kick in late. Midweight and biased towards fruit, it’s appreciably we’ll balanced drinker with just the right amount of weight to be sessionable. Good. Best drinking: now to at least seven or eight years. 17.5/20, 91/100. 13.5%, $27. Would I buy it? I’d share a bottle.
