McLaren Vale Cabernet is most underrated. Or, it’s just a bit forgotten in the Vale hierarchy, even though the region’s Cab is amongst the oldest in South Australia. This Penny’s Hill Edwards Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 has flavour and charisma too, all delivered for $25 a bottle.
From a block at the Edwards Road end of Penny’s Hill vineyard (hence the name). Deep and not short on fruit, it’s a powerful, berry-laden and ripe Vale Cabernet that is more regional than varietal. Great mid palate intensity, muscular tannins. Such a substantial wine for $25. Good stuff. Best drinking: now to fifteen years. 18/20, 93/100. Penny’s Hill website. 14.5%, $25. Would I buy it? Worth sharing a bottle.
