Another joyful, incredibly well-priced McLaren Vale red from Allan Varney. This Varney Entrada G.M.T 2019 is a blend of Blewitt Springs & Seaview Grenache, Whites Valley $ Blewitt Springs Mourvèdre, Touriga from Oliver’s Taranga at Seaview. The blend includes some whole bunches and spends a short time in older oak. 250 dozen produced.
Such pure open and easy drinking. Slightly jubey red fruit Grenache is the hero, but it fans out into a round, vibrant and fun wine. Moreish fruit but with some darker hints of Mourvèdre driving things along, the modest alcohol just upping the drinkability further with no oak to get in the way…
This is the future of modern Australian drinking reds. Best drinking: now to eight years as a start. 18/20, 93/100. 13.1%, $25. Varney website. Would I buy it? Yes.
