God this is good for $15. Many of the Quilty & Gransden wines have been smart (and with the hits I think ‘$15 is madness’) but this Quilty & Gransden Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is my pick of the bunch.
Peripherally the brand is connected to Cumulus (and purchased through them), but that’s more because Marty Gransden and Russ Quilty work for Cumulus/Tamburlaine. There are five wines in the range, all well packaged and all $15 each – which is outstanding for Orange GI wines.
It’s correct too – minty, dry, cool climate Cabernet with pencil shavings over cassis, then fruit tannins to finish, the package classy for few dollars. It’s not a full-bodied Cab, but then it’s from Orange. I’d love to see this against $30 reds – it would smash most. A bit minty and lean on the finish is the only thing that stops it from even higher marks.
A bargain.
