Gee there are some super bargains in the Juniper (nee Juniper Estate) range. This Juniper Three Fields Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is a case in point.
A combination of Metricup & Wilyabrup fruit, so prime Margaret River Cabernet country. It spends a not insignificant 14 months in 30% new oak, which contributes to the oak richness. Quality oak, though, giving pencil shavings and dark cedary cocoa, plus dark fruit and mint. It’s only mid-weight and it still feels reasonably approachable if shaped by its tannins and power (from both oak and fruit).
This is such a serious-yet-drinkable Margs red at an entirely fair price.
Best drinking: good now, will still be good in a decade. 18/20, 93/100. 14%, $35. Juniper website. Would I buy it? Sure would.
