Do you drink Viognier? When I open a local example, I always think about who is drinking it. Is it still too hard to pronounce? Does anyone care? Why am I thinking about this at 3am?
Anyway, I like this Tim Smith Wines Viognier 2022. Eden Valley fruit, sourced from a ‘later than usual’ vintage, the must barrel fermented and aged on lees. It’s a tighter, leaner wine this year with a bit to come. There is that milky apple apricot fruit/barrel melange that I always like, and this has a generous texture without being fat – how does Tim manage that lovely texture in his wines? I should email him. Also, has he ever had to say ‘these are Tim Smith wines from Tim Smith Wines’ Something else to think about at 3am.
Meanwhile, I think this needs Viognier needs a bit to express itself. It’s goodun’, no doubt, but give it until after Christmas before popping the lid.
Best drinking: as above. 17.7/20, 92/100+. 13%, $30. Tim Smith Wines website. Would I buy it? Two glasses.
