Regular readers will be unsurprised that this Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Riesling 2022 hit mark. I mean, last vintage was super, and with comparison wines like Tim Smith’s ripper Riesling on form in ’22, no one should be surprised this is a lovely wine.
This smells great. Spiced grapefruit and a little white pepper. It’s quite steely this vintage, firm, svelte, long. Where it sings is the palate intensity – it’s like grapefruit concentrate. Gee it lingers on and on. A clamp of grapefruit that tightens more and more. Best of all, that all-natural acidity means that despite the obvious freshness, it remains an enjoyable, warm day in the afternoon drink. All for $28? Yes, please. Top gold.
Best drinking: now. That’s my preference. 18.7/20, 95/100. 12.5%, $28. Torzi Matthews website. Would I buy it? Shit yes.
