The Voyager range continues to breed like rabbits. This Voyager Estate The Modern Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is called The Modern after the modern clones used in its makeup. They don’t sit around on their hands much over at Voyager, and new winemaker Tim Shand is a big-time tinkerer too.
Plump, open, generous. Modern indeed. Still firmly varietal and regional, with mint and gum leaf and pencil shavings. But the palate is chunky, dark fruited, with a line of oak sweetness and more rounded tannins. Approachable and quite attractive. Grows on you. Maybe a smidgen tart? The palate expanse is pretty inviting though – the welcome face of mod Margaret River Cabernet right here.
Best drinking: already good and will be good in a decade still. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14%, $45. Voyager Estate website. Would I buy it? Worth a few glasses.
