It’s a pretty shallow pool for good Australian single variety Roussanne. Giaconda, Yangarra, Yelland & Papps for a few, but it’s limited. This Yalumba Eden Valley Roussanne 2020 is a welcome addition. Building off the winery’s success with Viognier methinks, this is a generous, varietal, richly textured white in the riper end of the spectrum, and all the better for it. Ripe red and yellow apples, just-ripe nectarine, a nice flashiness too. It needs to be drunk v. cold as it’s ripe. But that flesh and expanse is a delight. I enjoyed it.
Best drinking: now. 17.7/20, 92/100. 13.5%, $28. Yalumba website. Would I buy it? Yes, let’s share a bottle.

Alex McKay from Collector Wines has released a 2019 Roussanne. Alas, I haven’t tried it yet.
