Ready to drink: 18 white wines to empty this March 2021
I seem to be flooded with whites wines at Graham HQ at the moment. Not a bad thing when it's 29C outside (like it was yesterday) of course... Here then is …

January is a little slower for wine deliveries to the Australian Wine Review PO Box, as most local vignerons are either on holidays, preparing for vintage, or picking grapes. That means …
This is great dry Australian rosé. More importantly, it's delicious. Apparently the key here is the clone, with 1-11 tagged as the rosato clone. Early ripening, nice aromatics. Fits the bill. This …
13 months ago a fire ripped a swathe through the Adelaide Hills, destroying some 30% of the Hills vineyards and torching vines, wineries, homes and equipment. Now, on the back of …
Another very fresh and vital release under this label. The Wirra Wirra The Lost Watch Riesling 2020 is especially taut and lively. Water clear and ultra pure Adelaide Hills Riesling. Not …
This didn't feel like a normal NYE. But with a toddler, what counts a 'normal' NYE anyway? More importantly, who cares about New Years? Regardless, I opened plenty of tasty drinks …
Not all wines can be great. Plenty are just ok drinks. And some are just bad. Here then is a selection of wines that almost made it to a pass mark …
Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays. Joyous Festivus (take your pick of chosen intro). This has been a very weird Christmas for us. Here, situated in the only part of Australia in lockdown, Christmas …
My not-so-hot-take - Mencia can make profound red wines and I can't wait until we get the vine age/clones/site selection etc etc for it to align for quality. This La …
Barbera is such a promising variety for the Adelaide Hills, the range of styles as diverse as it is in Piedmont. This RedHeads Rusty Roof Barbera 2019 fits into the …
What a track record the recent M3 vintages have enjoyed. Every egg has been a bird. More importantly, this Shaw + Smith M3 Chardonnay 2019 is just a really tasty …
Fun fact: Shiraz makes up over 25% of all winegrapes crushed in Australia, and South Australia has the largest vineyard area with 76,292ha (Wine Australia figures 19/20). But what I want …
Australian Chardonnay is in the midst of a purple patch, with quality - and value - as good as it has ever been, as this collection of the 16 best …
While I don’t love the packaging change, this Pike & Joyce Sauvignon Blanc 2019 is well made Adelaide Hills Sauv. Fresh, but still ripe and leans more towards tropical apple …
It's halfway through spring. Already. That escalated quickly... As the name suggests, these are the best pink/blush/salmon orange/reddish coloured Australian rosé to pass the Australian Wine Review tasting bench this springtime. …
This Longview Devils Elbow Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is solid Adelaide Hills Cabernet, but honestly, the Saturno brothers should just graft this over to Nebbiolo (which they do so well). Dusty and …
This is now the third bottle of Tapanappa Tiers Chardonnay 2018 and each time it gets better. Now officially at 'phwoar' level. For a little context about Tiers, you need to …
Another successful release, with this Longview Nebbiolo Saturnus 2018 another solid varietal Aus Nebb. Glossy red raspberry kirsch fruit, fine tannins. Might need a bit more tannic drive to be sublime …
My expectations for cricket legend Ricky Ponting's new Ponting Wines were very low. That's a hangover from years of experience with consistently shithouse celebrity 'collaboration wine' - like the middling Greg …
It's only the 16th August but this has been one glorious month for Pinot Noir. Each and every one of these wines went down well at Australian Wine Review HQ, with …
At 18, I started working in a small suburban bottleshop, largely to buy cheap beer. It was my first year of university, slogging through physics and chemistry, so a liquor shop seemed like fun. Needless to say, I discovered wine, and my life evolved with a unique dual focus - wine and environment.
Twenty years later and I spend my days wearing many (wine) hats, mostly as a writer, presenter and marketer.
I now judge at wine shows around the world, sit on the Australian Wine List of the Year awards panel and was once a Wine Journalism Young Gun (but baby that was years ago).
Currently, I write features for a variety of publications including National Liquor News, Gourmet Traveller WINE and the RAS, plus I'm a former Lifestyle FOOD channel wine expert.
In 2019 and 2020 I was voted in the Top 30 Best Wine Critics in The World, and in my spare time, I'm a sucker for punishment and run trail ultra marathons, much to the delight of my long-suffering family. Read more about me here or get in touch to book your next wine event with me here
