Orlando Abrigo Barbaresco Montersino 2011 Had this at Armando Al Pantheon in Rome, which was easily the biggest food disappointment of the trip (overcooked food and surly service). Even had the somm …
Some very brief highlights from Rootstock 2016 I only managed a single morning session at Rootstock 2016 (the sustainable wine/food fair - see previous iterations here or here) this year, mainly because I …
You'd think that the daughter of Piedmont producer Angelo Gaja - long feted as a king of Italian wine - would be anything but approachable. Gaia Gaja is exactly that. Seriously …
8 fine Aussie and Italian Nebbiolo I'll be the first to admit that Australia is yet to 'crack' the Nebbiolo formula. Sure, as some of the wines in this tasting show, we're …
Clever imports (and more) from Terroir Selections While it's been brutally hard for our export focused winemakers, the record strength of our Aussie dollar has been useful for one thing - …
Rootstock 2014 - 3 wine highlights Oh yes, it was busy Rootstock is Australia's first minimal intervention wine show, first held last year and now ramped up again for it's second iteration …
Much imported goodies Some imported goodies from the Negociants portfolio Whilst there is a whole multitude of importers bringing wine into Australia, I don't think any can really compete with the scale …
Ceretto 'Bricco Asili' Barbaresco 200814.5%, Cork, $195Source: Tasting:www.ceretto.com Tasting young Barberesco can be a challenging exercise at times, much like top Cabernet really, with the wines temperament anything but settled. This …
Charismatic imports from Xavier Bizot's Terroir Selections Nice lineup of imports here.. I've talked before about the good work of Xavier Bizot, Tapanappa and Terre a Terre GM, but that's previously been …
Christmas Drinks: Dönnhoff, Ata Rangi, Roagna, Morris Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett 2007 (Nahe, Germany) 8.5% It's still surprising (to me) how polarising off dry rizzas can be, particularly given the similar …
Gaja Sito Moresco 2006 (Langhe, Italy)Cork, $36 (375ml)Like all wine geeks, I like the odd wine experiment. Unusual blends, bizarre wine and food matches or sticking wines in the cellar …
At 18, I started working in a small suburban bottleshop, largely to buy cheap beer. It was my first year of university, slogging through physics and chemistry, so a liquor shop seemed like fun. Needless to say, I discovered wine, and my life evolved with a unique dual focus - wine and environment.
Twenty years later and I spend my days wearing many (wine) hats, mostly as a writer, presenter and marketer.
I now judge at wine shows around the world, sit on the Australian Wine List of the Year awards panel and was once a Wine Journalism Young Gun (but baby that was years ago).
Currently, I write features for a variety of publications including National Liquor News, Gourmet Traveller WINE and the RAS, plus I'm a former Lifestyle FOOD channel wine expert.
In 2019 and 2020 I was voted in the Top 30 Best Wine Critics in The World, and in my spare time, I'm a sucker for punishment and run trail ultra marathons, much to the delight of my long-suffering family. Read more about me here or get in touch to book your next wine event with me here
