I’m still confused by the heirachy here, as there is this Taltarni Estate Shiraz 2018 and a Taltarni Estate Old Vine Shiraz 2019. They look the same too. It’s not clear to me whether this will have a new name from 2019 or it’s a second tier wine?
A more rounded and chocolatey version of the Taltarni Shiraz it is too, but in a good way. This feels more conventional if you like, all plum and dark fruits with a carefully powerful palate that is still unfurling. Class here, in a style that isn’t going to scare the horses (eg Taltarni fans) with an expansive, oak-lifted, warming palate. Another strong release for the brand regardless, which has really bounced back in recent vintages.
Taltarni Estate Shiraz 2018. Best drinking: now and for the next fifteen years easy. It will live. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14.5%, $40. Taltarni website. Would I buy it? A glass or two. More in a decade.
