The continuing refinement of Longview’s Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo has been very welcome. This new Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo 2019 is an even more Pinot-like example (and it’s delicious).
Correct colour – washed-out blood red with orange at edges, the style on the lighter and more lucid side of the fence with correct raspberry fruit, no oak to be seen and fine tannins. Think more old-school Barberesco or even Valtellina rather than new-school, small oak Barolo, although it’s hardly bony. Approachable, finessed, the only thing it doesn’t have is the tannins for mega-stardom. It’s impressively formed, though and feels like Nebbiolo that isn’t trying to be Shiraz. I like.
Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo 2019. Best drinking: over the next ten years as a start, but enjoyable now. 18/20, 93/100. 13.5%, $50. Longview website. Would I buy it? Worth sharing a bottle.
